La Ligne’s GUIDE TO FIT & SIZING

Fit is Everything

Every La Ligne piece is designed with a specific fit in mind, shaped by fabric and garment construction.

Depending on how you want a piece to feel on your body — fitted or relaxed, slim or slouchy — your ideal size may vary by style.

For the most accurate assessment, each product page features a personalized sizing tool designed for ease of use. By entering three quick measurements, we can determine your recommended size, and adjustable fit toggles will enable you to see how your size recommendation shifts based on how you prefer the garment to look and feel on the body.

Measuring At Home

How To Measure

Measure around the fullest part of your bust while keeping the measuring tape level across your back.

Tip: Wear a bra or fitted top for the most accurate measurement.

Personalized Recommendation

For the most accurate assessment, each product page features a personalized sizing tool designed for ease of use. By entering three quick measurements, we can determine your recommended size, and adjustable fit toggles will enable you to see how your size recommendation shifts based on how you prefer the garment to look and feel on the body.

All you need is a soft measuring tape.
Measure over your underwear or fitted clothes — never over bulky layers.

How La Ligne thinks about fit

Our Approach

01

Body Measurements Vs. Garment Measurements

Your body measurements aren't the same as a garment's measurements. Each style is designed with a specific amount of ease—the space between your body and the fabric—to create its intended fit.

02

Proportion & Silhouette

Fit is shaped by proportion and affected by the garment's intended silhouette. Some pieces are designed to sit closer to the body, while others are intentionally boxy or oversized. Because of this, sizing is not one-size-fits-all across all styles. Construction, fabric, and silhouette all influence how a piece looks and feels.

03

Fabric Behavior

Fabric plays a key role in fit—some styles drape softly (à la silk chiffon,) while others hold their shape (cotton poplin) or offer stretch (jersey) and structure (heavier knits.)

Style Notes

Specific Considerations

Elastic Waist & Ease

Colby Pant

The Colby Pant is designed to be worn with ease. The elastic waist adapts to your body, while the bias cut through the leg allows the fabric to move naturally with you. Across fabrications, we recommend taking your usual size—while the drape may vary slightly depending on the fabric, the overall effect remains the same. If you're between sizes, consider sizing up in XXS–S and down in M–XL.

Intentionally Relaxed Fit

Knitwear

The size and fit notes on each product page are the best guide to a style's intended silhouette—whether relaxed or close to the body. Many sweaters, like the Marin or Marina, are designed with generous ease; take your usual size for the intended fit, or size down for a less oversized feel. For more streamlined styles, like the Lean Lines or Ben Sweaters, we recommend taking your usual size.

Denim

La Ligne Jean

Our denim ranges from rigid to stretch—refer to the product details for specific fabric information, including stretch. Styles with elastane will give and relax slightly with wear, so your usual size, or a size down, is typically the best fit. For rigid, non-stretch denim, consider sizing up if you're between sizes or prefer a more relaxed feel.

The rise also plays a key role in fit. Measured from the top of the waistband to the crotch seam:

  • low-rise styles sit at the hip,
  • mid-rise just below the natural waist, and
  • high-rise at the natural waist.

Dresses

Dresses

When choosing your size in dresses, prioritize fit through the bust, waist, and hips, as these points shape the intended silhouette.

Freedom of Movement

Tops & Shirts

Fit varies depending on design intent and fabric. Some styles are structured, while others are fluid and relaxed—refer to each piece individually when selecting your size.

Outerwear

Our jackets and coats are designed to be worn over light knits. If you plan to layer over heavier sweaters, consider sizing up.
